As you have likely read or heard from me before, I get very reflective and even melancholy at the end of the year. I begin to evaluate my progress in the past year and considering where I had growth and where I need to focus my efforts more diligently next year.
I can honestly say that in a year that no one could have fathomed, I am super proud of all of the things I have accomplished this year. Sure, there were goals that weren’t quite accomplished, ideas not followed up on, and dreams to still be pursued. I am basing my success this year on a metric I have never used before because I am quite sure until one year ago I had never heard of a limiting belief.
All of us have them. Some of us are able to use them as stepping stones to growth, while others see them as roadblocks to success. No matter where you fall on the spectrum, I am here to tell you that they can be overcome and that when you do, you will experience a level of self-satisfaction that I believe you never have before. At least that has been my experience in 2020.
There is another term I have learned this year, thanks to my association with the Ziglar Corporation, which I began working within April this year. And that is the concept of Persistent Consistency. Briefly, consistency is showing up every day and doing what needs to be done to accomplish your goals and solve your problems. Persistence is adding just a little bit more every day.
Another concept I’ve learned this year is to do it scared. Here is what I have learned from overcoming limiting beliefs, practicing persistent consistency, and doing it scared this year. I cannot wait for the challenges and adventures that await me in the New Year. I have a sense of purpose and clarity that I have not had in years, if not decades. I want these joyous feelings and beliefs for you as well.
I want to encourage you to challenge yourself. Today. Don’t wait for the New Year, or until (fill in the blank). Start now. You are capable of much more than you think you are. I now know that I am. It didn’t happen overnight. I had to confront my limiting beliefs, some of which I still have to tackle every day. It took a lot of patience and a lot of hard work (Persistent Consistency) because change takes time and effort.
I am only just now beginning to see the fruits of my labor in 2020. But the exponential growth I have experienced this year I have to imagine will multiply into even greater and higher growth in 2021. I want to encourage you to experience what I have experienced this year. And I truly know that if I can do it, so can you.
Your sense of accomplishment, pride, and clarity are all waiting for you to take action. It happens one step at a time, one day at a time. But when it begins to happen, I defy you to say that the results were not worth the effort. I promise you, they are.
